Moving an Organ
So what's so tough about moving an organ? Plenty. First, organs require special equipment to carry the pipes from one point to the next. Due to their extreme size, it is also not uncommon for an organ mover to have to disassemble the structure just to physically fit it through doorways! Even if both locations do have large enough doors, you still face the careful maneuvering of a very, very heavy piece of equipment. And none of this even takes all the electrical components of an organ into account! Clearly, moving an organ is a job best left to professional organ moving companies.
Piano & Organ Moving Companies
Often, you'll find that most piano moving companies will also move organs. However, being able to move a piano doesn't necessarily mean a company is qualified to move organs. As we've noted above, the process is quite involved - typically more so than for a piano - so it is important to ask any prospective organ moving companies how much experience they actually have with organs. Not all companies share the same philosophy on moving organs, but generally inquiring whether or not they make use of pipe trays and are willing and able to at least partially disassemble the structure will give you a good idea about their experience-level.
